Link Value - How Much is a Text Link Really Worth?
The value or worth of a link will vary from person to person, but the main objective of any link is to bring traffic back to your website. If you know the name of the company that owns the directory, find more information about the company. Of course, it must be real traffic rather than bots or programmed scripts that may visit your website but offer no opportunity for sales or advertising revenue. People who are searching for a particular type of web site will use links directories as an alternative to doing a search engine query. There are a variety of ways to receive links but it can be difficult to determine how much each link is worth because of the numerous factors that reflect a link’s value. Various small free or paid directories are also worthy your attention. So let’s take a look at some of the factors that make up a link’s worth. An open directory has a massive set of categories of sites. Traffic - the ultimate goal of any link is to generate traffic. Obviously, the more traffic a link can generate the better the link is. The trouble here is that if a lot of people are buying featured links for a particular category, you may still be pushed quite a way down the list. Type of traffic - If you can receive targeted or relevant traffic it is much more valuable than non-targeted traffic. Link Text Relevancy

One relevant link is equal to 100 irrelevant links, you better guess how important is the link text relevancy, here relevant link text means the title of the link and very next paragraph after title. Link Location - It is important that the link is easily accessed. Before I continue, let me quickly define Link Popularity (link pop) for you. If the link is located on a page that can only be accessed by clicking through 5 other pages the link isn’t worth much. More experienced contributors can elaborate on more benefits, but as a new writer article directories don’t sound too bad. Also, if the link is coming from a “bad neighborhood” on the internet that will decrease the link’s value. The whole experience is a gamble and a step into the unknown, making you feel vulnerable and unsure. Link Type - Is the link a one-way link or reciprocal link. There is always a charge for featured links (this is one of the ways that link exchanges make their money). A one-way link is much more valuable than a reciprocal link especially to search engines. Important Aspect of Incoming Links:

Incoming links are evaluated on certain criteria and weight, there are four major aspect of incoming links on the basis of them each links are considered more valuable. There are many other contributing factors to a link’s value but these are the key points to consider. A big advantage of many online directories is that they offer national coverage. Just like anything of value, a link is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If you happen to list your site in a directory that doesn’t follow the terms of service of the major search engines, you may find that you’ve done more harm in that single submission than the good you’ve been working to achieve. While a link may not be actually purchased for cash, something of value is always exchanged. It is essential that you make a specific designation of that category in order for it to be part of the other sites that have the same category. It be your time, information, a link on your site, or anything else of value. As a general rule, never ever submit a site that has a duplicated content or any link address that contains similar pages. To better understand the value of a link I have created a new project that will allow links to be traded in an open market environment such as the stock market. Does the company maintain dozens of directories or just this one? You do not want to deal with the company that runs dozens of directories because they are obviously just out for your money. Through this project I hope to get a better understanding of what a link is worth.
